Abstract
A method for preventing fouling of a structure which may be or is contacted with sea water, which comprises applying to same a composition composed of PA0 (a) an alkali silicate as a binder, PA0 (b) about 15 to about 400% by weight, based on the amount of SiO.sub.2 in component (a), of active magnesium oxide having an iodine adsorption of about 30 to about 300 mg.I/g.MgO, PA0 (c) 0 to less than 15% by weight, based on the total amount of components (b) and (c), of calcium sulfite, and PA0 (d) 0 to about 900% by weight, based on the total amount of components (b) and (c), of at least one member selected from the group consisting of metallic zinc and inorganic zinc compounds.
