Abstract
Disclosed is an ablative infrared sensitive optical recording composition containing as a component thereof a dispersion of a resinous binder and an absorbing infrared sensitive tertiary butyl substituted vanadyl phthalocyanine obtained by the vapor treatment of a non-infrared sensitive tertiary butyl substituted vanadyl phthalocyanine of the following formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are tertiary butyl groups, or hydrogen, and M is vanadium oxide, subject to the provision that the average number of tertiary butyl groups present is from about 1 to 2.5, and at least one of R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 is tertiary butyl.
