Abstract
A process for preparing a 3,4,6-trisubstituted 3-alkylthio-1,2,4-triazin-5-one of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 is alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, optionally substituted cycloalkyl or optionally substituted aralkyl, PA1 R.sup.2 is amino, alkylamino or alkyl, and PA1 R.sup.3 is alkyl, halogenoalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, optionally substituted cycloalkyl, optionally substituted aryl or optionally substituted aralkyl, which comprises reacting a 3-mercapto-1,2,4-triazin-5-one of the formula ##STR2## with an ester of an oxygen-containing acid as an alkylating agent, the reaction being effected at a temperature between about -20.degree. and 180.degree. C. in the presence of an at least equimolar amount of a strong oxygen-containing acid.
