Abstract
An improved process for the preparation of aromatic carbonates selected from aliphatic aromatic carbonates, diaromatic carbonates, and mixtures thereof comprising reacting at least one phenolic compound with at least one dialiphatic carbonate or at least one aliphatic aromatic carbonate in the presence of a catalytic amount of at least one transesterification catalyst represented by the general formula ##STR1## wherein: X is selected from Sn and Ti; and PA0 R is selected from monovalent hydrocarbon radicals and monovalent hydrocarbonoxy radicals.
