Abstract
An improved process for the preparation of aromatic carbonates selected from aliphatic aromatic carbonates, diaromatic carbonates, and mixtures thereof comprising reacting a phenolic compound with a dialiphatic carbonate or an aliphatic aromatic carbonate in the presence of a catalytic amount of at least one catalyst selected from polymeric tin compounds containing recurring structural units represented by the general formula ##STR1## wherein: R is selected from monovalent hydrocarbon radicals; and PA0 R.sup.1 is selected from monovalent hydrocarbon radicals.
