Abstract

Novel herbicides of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each independently is alkyl, PA1 X is cyano, alkoxycarbonyl or aminocarbonyl, and PA1 Y is hydrogen or, if X is cyano, may also be trimethylsilyl, can be prepared by reacting an imidazo-pyrrolo-pyridine of the formula ##STR2## with trimethylsilyl cyanide of the formula EQU (CH.sub.3).sub.3 Si--CN.
