Abstract

A method of combating a disorder of the salt balance in a patient afflicted therewith comprising administering to such patient a salt-balance restoring effective amount of a vasodilating 1,4-dihydropyridine of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each independently is alkyl with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and the nitro radical is in the ortho- or meta-position of the phenyl radical. The salt balance disorder may accompany the hypertensive disease or may also be aggravated by administering to such a patient a hypertension reducing agent.
