Abstract

A material (14) such as an antiperspirant contained in a shear-sensitive, free-flowing, powdery, suspension of aqueous droplets stabilized by a barrier of very fine, hydrophobic metal oxide is dispensed from a roll-on applicator. As the ball (18) is rotated, an adherent film (22) of the suspension passes through the annular outlet (20) and is subjected to shear forces. The suspension coalesces into a film (24) of cream or lotion. The suspension exhibits excellent flowability through the outlet (20) without any binding or fouling and the lotion or cream film has good adhesion to the ball. Application results in a dry feeling on the skin of the subject, a short dry-out time and excellent antiperspirant efficacy.
