Abstract

Crystalline aluminates conforming substantially to the general formula LiR.2Al(OH).sub.3, CaR(A).2Al(OH).sub.3, or ZnR(A).2Al(OH).sub.3, where R is an organic acid of C.sub.6 -C.sub.22 and A, when present, is an inorganic anion, are found to improve the coefficient of friction and antiwear properties of lubication fluids subjected to shearing, rubbing, or grinding forces at elevated pressure.
