Abstract

An liquid developer for electrostatic photography is described, comprising a carrier liquid having an electric resistance of at least 10.sup.9 .OMEGA..multidot.cm and a dielectric constant of not more than 3.5, and a resin dispersed therein, said resin being obtained by polymerizing a monomer, which is soluble in said carrier liquid but becomes insoluble upon being polymerized, in the presence of at least one kind of a soluble dispersion stabilizing resin, said soluble dispersion stabilizing resin being a copolymer containing at least recurring units represented by following formulae (IIIa) and (IIIb) obtained by applying a reaction for introducing an unsaturated bond into a copolymer obtained by polymerizing a monomer represented by formula (I) and a monomer represented by formula (III) ##STR1## wherein in formula (I), V represents --O--, --S--, --CO--, --CO.sub.2 --, --SO.sub.2 --, --OCO--, --CONH--, --CONR'-- (wherein R' represents a hydrocarbon group), --NHCO--, NHCO.sub.2 --, or --NHCONH--; X represents --CO.sub.2 H, --COCl, --OH, --SH, --NH.sub.2, --NCO, or --SO.sub.2 CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 Cl; W represents a hydrocarbon group linking said atomic group V and said atomic group X di…
