Abstract

In accordance with the present invention, it has been found that liquid stabilizer compositions for vinyl halide polymers that are compatible with and form stable mixtures with epoxidized glycerides can be prepared by a process which comprises heating a non-homogeneous mixture comprising (A) at least one epoxidized glyceride, (B) at least one hydrocarbon-soluble, (B-1) basic alkali or alkaline earth metal salt of an alkyl phenol, or (B-2) basic alkali or alkaline earth metal salt of a monocarboxylic acid, and (C) a hydrocarbon diluent, at an elevated temperature until the mixture is homogeneous. Generally, the metal salts are alkaline earth metal salts such as calcium and barium, and the basic alkaline earth metal salt utilized in this system is a salt of an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid prepared in the presence of a phenol promoter. The invention also relates to stabilizer compositions thus prepared and to stabilizer compositions optionally containing (D) substantially neutral polyvalent metal salts of carboxylic acids and/or (E) organic phosphites. Vinyl halide polymer compositions comprising a vinyl halide polymer and a stabilizing amount of the homogeneous stabilizer compositio…
