Abstract

A hydrogenation catalyst is disclosed, said catalyst consisting essentially of 10-90 parts by weight of nickel and 90-10 parts by weight of silica and having an overall active nickel surface area of 70-200 m.sup.2 /g. A two-step process for preparing the catalyst is also disclosed.
