Abstract
An organoalkoxysilane/alumina sol-gel composition and method for its production are disclosed whereby an aluminum alkoxide is hydrolyzed in water to form a sol, to which is added a hydrolyzable organoalkoxysilane of the general formula EQU R.sub.x Si(OR').sub.4-x wherein R is an organic radical, R' is a low molecular weight alkyl radical, and x is at least 1 and less than 4. The composition is dried and cured to form an organosiloxane/alumina monolith or coating on a substrate.
