Abstract

The method for the isomerization of oxiranes of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.3 are hydrogen; R.sub.2 is alkyl or alkylene groups of 3 to 26 carbon atoms or the phenyl group which may also be substituted, and R.sub.4 is hydrogen or alkyl from 1 to 26 carbon atoms and in which the carbon atoms of the epoxy ring can also form components of a cyclic system, wherein as a catalyst there is used alkali iodide and a polyethyleneglycol with an average mol mass of 400 to 10,000 with a boiling point, preferably above the boiling point of the carbonyl compounds that are formed.
