Abstract

Process for the preparation of polymer dispersions with particle diameters of 50 to 1000 nm, wherein there are employed, as emulsifiers for the emulsion polymerization citric acid derivatives of the general formula (I) ##STR1## in which, independently of one another, R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 denote C.sub.6 -C.sub.20 -alkyl, (including cycloalkyl) hydrogen, sodium, potassium, lithium or ammonium and PA1 R.sub.4 denotes hydrogen or acetyl, with the proviso that at least one of the radicals R.sub.1 to R.sub.3 denotes alkyl, and as initiators water-soluble agents which form free radicals or redox systems with at least one water-soluble component.
