Abstract

Water-soluble copolymers containing a statistical distribution of 1-86% by weight of structural units of the formula ##STR1## 9-80% by weight of units of the formula ##STR2## 5-90% by weight of units of the formula ##STR3## and up to a total of 30% by weight of one or more units of the formulae ##STR4## wherein R.sup.1 is alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; PA0 R.sup.2 and R.sup.5 independently of one another are each hydrogen or methyl; PA0 R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 independently of one another are each hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, or together R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are trimethylene or pentamethylene; PA0 Y is a direct bond, phenylene or a moiety of the formula --CO--NH--C(CH.sub.3).sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --; PA0 X.sym. is H.sym. or a cation; and said copolymers are useful as dyestuff auxiliaries and leather retanning agents.
