Abstract

A process for the preparation of 2-chloro-5-chloromethyl-thiazole of the formula: ##STR1## comprising reacting allyl isothiocyanate of the formula EQU CH.sub.2 .dbd.CH--CH.sub.2 --NCS with about 2 to 20 times its molar amount of chlorine at a temperature from above 0.degree. to 150.degree. C.
