Abstract

A neutral-black dye-donor element for thermal dye transfer comprises a support having thereon a dye dispersed in a polymeric binder, the dye comprising a 1-((4-phenylazo)phenylazo)-8-amino-2-naphthol, such as one having the formula: ##STR1## wherein: each R.sup.1 is independently a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group of from 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group of from about 5 to about 10 carbon atoms, or two R.sup.1 groups may be joined together with the N atom to which they are attached to form a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring; and PA0 R.sup.2 is hydrogen or R.sup.1.
