Abstract

An agent for the protection of material containing an N-sulphenylated benzenesulphonamide of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, and R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 independently of one another represent hydrogen, halogen, nitro, alkyl or halogenoalkyl and PA1 R.sup.4 denotes an unsubstituted or substituted, saturated or unsaturated, aliphatic or cycloaliphatic radical, the aliphatic radicals being uninterrupted or heteroatoms or being interrupted by one or more hetero-atoms. The N-sulphenylated benzenesulphonamide-containing agents are useful for protecting industrial materials, for example, paints and timber, against attack by microorganisms, such as bacteria, fungi, yeasts, algae, slimes and viruses.
