Abstract
A photosensitive member according to the present invention comprises an electrically conductive substrate and a photosensitive layer comprising a binder resin and a styryl compound dispersed therein and represented by the general formula (I), ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.3 and R.sub.5 each represent hydrogen or an alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or heterocyclic group, the aryl, aralkyl and heterocyclic groups having or not having a substituent, R.sub.2, R.sub.4 and R.sub.6 each represent a substituted or unsubstituted aryl, aralkyl or heterocyclic group, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4, and R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 taken together form a ring, and R.sub.7, R.sub.8 and R.sub.9 each represent hydrogen or an alkyl, alkoxyl, aralkyl or aryl group. A photosensitive member of this structure exhibits high sensitivity, is outstanding in the ability to retain charges and in charge transporting ability and less prone to deterioration when repeatedly used.
