Abstract

Low-foam or foam-depressing surfactant mixtures based on water-soluble and/or water-emulsifiable polyalkylene glycol ethers of relatively long-chain alcohols containing components I, II and, if desired, III in the quantities indicated: PA1 (I) from 20 to 80% by weight of polyethylene glycol ethers corresponding to the following general formula EQU R.sub.1 --O--(CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O).sub.n --R.sub.2 (I) PA1 in which R.sub.1 is a straight-chain or branched C.sub.8 -C.sub.18 alkyl or alkenyl radical, R.sub.2 is a C.sub.4 -C.sub.8 alkyl radical and n is a number of from 3 to 7, PA1 (II) from 10 to 40% by weight of alkyl polyalkylene glycol mixed ethers corresponding to the following general formula ##STR1## in which R.sub.3 is a straight-chain or branched C.sub.8 -C.sub.18 alkyl radical, x is a number of from 1 to 3 and y is a number of from 3 to 6, and PA1 (III) from 0 to 40% by weight of alkyl (poly)propylene glycol ethers corresponding to the following general formula ##STR2## in which R.sub.4 is a straight-chain or branched C.sub.16 -C.sub.22 alkyl or alkenyl radical and z is a number of from 1 to 3.
