Abstract
A process for the preparation of trifluoromethyl iodide by bringing into contact with one another to form a reaction product either: PA0 zinc, sulfur dioxide, and trifluoromethyl bromide, or PA0 (b) sodium dithionite and trifluoromethyl bromide; in a polar aprotic solvent, such as dimethylformamide, preferably followed by a filtration stage to remove the solid products. Thereafter, iodine dissolved in carboxylic or sulfuric acid is added to the reaction product, and trifluoromethyl iodide is evolved.
