Abstract

Unsaturated polymers containing nitrile groups can be hydrogenated with the preservation of the nitrile group in a homogeneous phase with a catalyst of the formula: EQU RuX[(L.sub.1) (L.sub.2).sub.n ] in which PA0 X represents hydrogen, halogen or SnCl.sub.3, PA0 L.sub.1 represents optionally substituted indenyl, PA0 L.sub.2 represents a phosphane, bisphosphane or arsane and n signifies 1 or 2, if a low-molecular ketone is used as a solvent.
