Abstract
A detersive article, useful for charging an automatic washing machine with particulate built synthetic organic detergent composition, includes a detersive charge of such particulate composition in a closed container or packet which is formed by sealing about such composition a sheet or sheets of readily water dispersible water soluble cellulose compound and cellulose fibers, which is coated and/or covered or laminated with water soluble polyvinyl alcohol on interior surfaces thereof. The packet material dissolves or disperses rapidly when the packet is added to wash water in an automatic washing machine, and thereby releases contained detergent composition to the wash water earlier in the washing process than do other "dissolvable packets" which are made of polyvinyl alcohol. When a soil release promoting agent (SRP), such as PET-POET copolymer, is present in the particulate detergent composition superior soil release promotion is noted when washing polyester and polyester blend laundry, compared to washing such laundry with controls wherein the SRP is in a detergent composition that is not in a packet, or is in a composition in a PVA packet, without any CMC/cellulose sheet materia…
