Abstract
A process for preparing cyanoalkyphenols comprising contacting a bisphenol with cyanide ion at elevated temperatures under reaction conditions sufficient to produce the desired cyanoalkylphenol. Compounds, e.g. 4-(1-cyano-1-methylethyl)phenol, produced via this method are useful as chemical intermediates in the preparation of polyurethanes, epoxy resins and pharmaceutical and agricultural products.
