Abstract
A rolling mill is rotated while microscopic dents with peripheral ridges are formed by an intermittent laser beam in the presence of a gas jet directed at the beam impact zone. The output and the angle of incidence of the gas jet are controlled and microscopic dents are formed with a ridge on only part of their periphery. Steel sheet cold-rolled by means of such a roll has uniformly distributed hollows, each hollow partially surrounding an elevation.
