Abstract

A splice connector for making butt splices in optical fibers include an element formed of a deformable material and formed to define three surfaces for contacting the fibers to be spliced. The surfaces are formed between two levers of the element such that when the levers are moved toward each other the surfaces defining a fiber receiving passageway are closed onto a pair of fiber ends and the surfaces center the fiber ends and the levers afford a resilient spring compression reserve force on the aligned fiber ends to maintain them in contact. The element is placed in a plastic base and a cover, that fits onto the base, is placed over the element to close the levers of the element when the cover is closed.
