Abstract
A water-soluble anthraquinone compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein A represents a divalent hydrocarbon group; PA1 X represents a divalent hydrocarbon group; and PA1 R.sup.1 & R.sup.2 each independently is H or alkyl or together, with X and the N atoms to which they are attached, represent a diazaheterocycle; PA1 R represents a monovalent hydrocarbon group; PA1 n is 0 or 1; PA1 Z is H or a group, Y--B; PA1 Y is a divalent heterocycle; and PA1 B is an activated halogen atom, and an adduct thereof with a carbohydrate substrate, capable of selectively absorbing certain proteinaceous materials and suitable for use in the chromatographic separation of proteins.
