Abstract
The invention relates to compositions and methods for smoothing textile fibers which compositions are characterized in that they contain as lubricants an aliphatic polyether corresponding to the following general formula: EQU R.sup.1 --X--O--R.sup.2 in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are linear and/or branched, saturated and/or saturated, OH-containing or OH-free C.sub.6 -C.sub.24 alkyl radicals of natural and/or synthetic origin and X is a homopolymer or copolymer containing one or more C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkylene oxides having a degree of polymerization of 1 to 25, either alone or in admixture with other smoothing agents. The other smoothing agents include paraffins, polyethylenes, fatty acid ethers, silicones or polyalkylene glycols. The compositions may be applied to textile fiber in the form of solutions, emulsions or aqueous dispersions.
