Abstract

The invention relates to the use of 5-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinones of the formula: ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, which are identical or different, independently of one another denote a hydrogen atom, a methyl, methoxy or nitro group or a halogen atom; R.sub.3 and R.sub.4, which are identical or different, independently of one another denote a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl, methyl or methoxy group; and R.sub.5 denotes a hydrogen atom or a methyl or methoxy group, with the proviso that at least one of the substituents R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is different from hydrogen, if R.sub.3, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 simultaneously denote a hydrogen atom, for dyeing human keratin fibres, in particular the hair.
