Abstract

This invention encompasses preparations containing hair dyes of the formula ##STR1## wherein: one of R.sup.1 or R.sup.2 is a nitro and the other is --SO.sub.3 H; PA0 one of R.sup.3 or R.sup.4 is --NR.sup.6 R.sup.7 and the other is hydrogen, chlorine, or a C.sub.1-4 alkyl, and R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 are independently hydrogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, or C.sub.2-4 hydroxyalkyl; and PA0 R.sup.5 is hydrogen, chlorine, or a C.sub.1-4 alkyl; or a water soluble salt thereof; certain novel compounds within the above formula; and a method for dyeing hair.
