Abstract
A water-soluble dye, free from cellulose reactive groups, of the formula: ##STR1## wherein each of Ar.sup.1 and Ar.sup.2, independently, represents an optionally substituted phenyl or naphthyl radical, PA0 each of R.sup.1 and R.sup.4, independently, represents --OR.sup.5 or --NR.sup.6 R.sup.7, PA0 R.sup.5 represents hydrogen or alkyl, PA0 R.sup.6 represents hydrogen, alkyl, aryl or a radical of the formula --(C.sub.a H.sub.2a O).sub.m (C.sub.b H.sub.2b O).sub.n H, PA0 R.sup.7 represents hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, a radical fo the formula --(C.sub.a H.sub.2a O).sub.m (C.sub.b H.sub.2b O).sub.n H or a radical of a mono- or disazo dye, or PA0 R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 together form a morpholine ring, PA0 a and b are different integers from 1 to 8, PA0 m is an integer from 1 to 10, PA0 n is an integer from 0 to 9, PA0 each of R.sup.2 and R.sup.3, independently, represents hydrogen or alkyl, PA0 M represents hydrogen, ammonium or a monovalent metal, and each of p and q, independently is an integer from 1 to 3. The dyes are suitable for use in ink jet printing.
