Abstract
The present invention relates to a method for inducing male sterility in plants which comprises treating seeds of a plant receptive to said treatment by application of an effective amount of a compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R and R.sup.1 are hydrogen, alkyl, alkenl, alkynl, allyl, aryl, halogen or boron and may be the same or different; PA0 X and X.sup.1 are fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine; nitrate, sulfate, sulfonate, phosphate, citrate, or maleate; PA0 n and n.sup.1 are the integers 0 or 1, and may be the same or different; PA0 m and m.sup.1 are integers from 0 to 4, and may be the same or different; for a period of time and under conditions sufficient to induce male sterility in adult plants which are grown from said treated seeds.
