Abstract
A process for the polymerization of ethylene comprises bringing ethylene or ethylene and at least one .alpha.-olefin in contact with a catalyst comprising a metallocene compound of a transition metal selected from Groups IVB, VB and VIB, an aluminoxane and a silicon compound having an Si-O-C bond for polymerization. The use of the silicon compound having an Si-O-C bond in the catalysis by a combination of a metallocene compound and an aluminoxane results in the production of ethylene polymers having a lower melt flow rate (MFR) than those produced similarly except for the silicon compound not being used.
