Abstract
An electrically insulating coating is formed on a metallic surface by applying a film of an aqueous fluoride-free composition which contains a water-dilutable synthetic resin, a dispersed waxlike substance, an inorganic or organic pigment, a borate, an alkali metal hydroxide, ammonia or an organic amine for adjusting the pH to between 7 and 9, and drying the moist film at a temperature between 120 and 350.degree. C.
