Abstract

A catalyst component for olefin polymerization, prepared by bringing a titanium-containing solid which comprises (a) a metal oxide, (b) an organomagnesium compound represented by the following general formula: EQU R.sup.1 MgR.sup.2 wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each represents a hydrocarbon group containing from 1 to 20 carbon atoms, a halogen atom, or an OR.sup.3 group in which R.sup.3 represents a hydrocarbon group containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, provided that R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 do not represent a halogen atom at the same time, (c) an electron donor compound, and (d) a titanium compound having contacted with each other, into contact with (e) an .alpha.-olefin containing 3 carbon atoms or more in the presence of (f) an organoaluminum compound, to thereby contain a poly(.alpha.-olefin) in an amount of from 0.1 to 100 g per gram of said titanium-containing solid.
