Abstract
The invention relates to the crystalline formic acid solvate of (6R, 7R)-7-[(Z)-2-(2-Aminothiazol-4-y1)-2-(2-carboxyprop-2-oxyimino)acetamido]- 3-(1-pyridiniummethyl)ceph-3-em-4-carboxylate dihydrochloride (ceftazidime dihydrochloride). The crystalline solvate is a useful intermediate in the preparation of forms of ceftazidime suitable for administration, e.g. the pentahydrate.
