Abstract

This invention provides water soluble dispersible hydrophobically modified polycarboxylate polymers which are useful as detergent builders and detergent compositions utilizing these novel polymers as builders, the polymers comprise repeating units of the structure: ##STR1## where Z is ##STR2## A is a repeating unit of structure: ##STR3## B is a repeating unit of structure: ##STR4## with typical repeating units r being derived from a monomer: ##STR5## A derived e.g. from acrylic acid and B derived e.g. from styrene.
