Abstract
A photographic element is described comprising a support having thereon a silver halide emulsion layer comprising silver halide sensitized with a dye of the formula: ##STR1## wherein L.sub.1, L.sub.2, L.sub.3, L.sub.4, L.sub.5, L.sub.6, L.sub.7, L.sub.8, and L.sub.9 each independently represents a substituted or unsubstituted methine group, PA1 Z.sub.1 represents the atoms necessary to complete a benzothiazole nucleus, a benzoxazole nucleus, a benzoselenazole nucleus, a benzotellurazole nucleus, or a benzimidazole nucleus, which, in addition to being substituted by --SR.sub.3, is further substituted or unsubstituted. PA1 Z.sub.2 represents the atoms necessry to complete a substituted or unsubstituted 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring. PA1 R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each independently represents substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or substituted or unsubstituted aryl. PA1 R.sub.3 represents substituted or unsubstituted alkyl of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms. PA1 m is 1 or 2, PA1 n is 0 or 1, and PA1 X is a counterion.
