Abstract

Dihydroxydiphenyl cycloalkanes corresponding to the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 independently of one another represent hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl, C.sub.6 -C.sub.10 aryl and C.sub.7 -C.sub.12 aralkyl, PA1 m is an integer of from 4 to 7, PA1 R.sup.3 and R.sup.4, individually selectable for each X, independently of one another represent hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl PA1 and PA1 X represents carbon with the proviso that, at at least one atom X, both R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are alkyl, a process for their production, their use for the production of high molecular weight polycarbonates, the polycarbonates made from dihydroxydiphenyl cycloalkane of formula (I) and films made from these polycarbonates.
