Abstract

Cyano-containing polymers can be prepared from polymers having isolated, non-activated double bonds and hydrogen cyanide in the presence of catalysts of the formula EQU Ni[P(OR.sup.1).sub.3 ].sub.n (I) in which PA1 R.sup.1 stands for alkyl or aryl and PA1 n denotes the number 3 or 4, and also in the presence of cocatalysts of the formula EQU AlR.sup.2.sub.3-m Hal.sub.m (II) in which PA1 R.sup.2 stands for hydrogen, alkyl or cyano, PA1 Hal stands for chlorine, bromine or cyano and PA1 m denotes the number 0, 1, 2 or 3, and also, if appropriate, in the presence of a phosphite of the formula EQU P(OR.sup.1).sub.3 (III) in which R.sup.1 has the given meaning, in inert organic solvents at 40.degree. to 100.degree.
