Abstract

Bleach activators are herein disclosed having the stoichiometric formula: EQU [Cu(R.sub.1 R.sub.2 CHR.sub.5 (CH.sub.2).sub.n R.sub.6 CHNR.sub.3 R.sub.4)X.sub.m ] (I) wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are each a radical selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, alkylaryl, arylalkyl, phenyl, benzyl and mixtures thereof, PA1 or R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 together form a hydrogen carbon ring, PA1 n is an integer from 0 to 1, PA1 m is an integer from 1 to 2, and PA1 X is selected from mono- and polyvalent anions. These bleach activators are combined with a peroxygen compound capable of releasing hydrogen perioxide in an aqueous solution. The combination is especially effective in the removal of hydrophobic stains from fabrics.
