Abstract
Aromatic polycarbonates having weight average molecular weight M.sub.w of at least 10,000 which contain bifunctional carbonate structural units corresponding to general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4 independently represent hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 hdyrocarbon or halogen radicals; and PA0 R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup.7, R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 independently represent hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 hydrocarbon radicals, one or R.sup.5 and R.sup.9 representing hydrogen and the other C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 hydrocarbon radical; in amounts of from 100 to 1 mole % based on the total amount of difunctional carbonate structural units in the polycarbonate were found to be useful for thermoplast processing of compositions which are characterized by their improved toughness and high heat deflection temperature.
