Abstract

A silver halide emulsion manufactured by performing reduction sensitization and addition of at least one compound selected from the group consisting of compounds represented by formulas [I], [II], and [III] during the silver halide grain formation in a process of manufacturing silver halide emulsions: EQU R--SO.sub.2 S--M [I] EQU R--SO.sub.2 S-R.sup.1 [II] EQU RSO.sub.2 S--L.sub.m --SSO.sub.2 --R.sup.2 [III] wherein R, R.sup.1, and R.sup.2 can be the same or different and represent an aliphatic group, an aromatic group, or a heterocyclic group, M represents a cation, L represents a divalent bonding group, m represents 0 or 1, compounds represented by formulas [I] to [III] can be polymers containing, as a repeating unit, divalent groups derived from compounds represented by formulas [I] to [III], and, if possible, R, R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and L can be bonded with each other to form a ring.
