Abstract
Agents for external application contain as an effective component ellagic acid series compounds represented by the general formula [I] or salts thereof: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 to R.sub.4 are a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, a polyalkylene oxide residue where the alkylene oxide unit has 2 to 3 carbon atoms, or a sugar residue represented by the formula [II]: ##STR2## and R.sub.5 is a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group or an alkoxy group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms.
