Abstract
A catalyst of the following formula EQU Ni.sub.a MoO.sub.x (I) in which: PA1 a is a number from 0.6 to 1.3, and PA1 x is a number determined by the valency requirements of nickel and of molybdenum. The manufacture of this catalyst comprises the preparation of a solvated precursor and the thermal decomposition of the solvated precursor over a period of from 1 to 4 hours and at a temperature T.sub.1 of from 520.degree. to 600.degree. C. The catalyst is utilized in the oxidative dehydrogenation of propane at a temperature of from 400.degree. to 700.degree. C.
