Abstract

Ethereal solutions of arylmethylmagnesium halides EQU Ar--CH.sub.2 --Mg--Hal I (where Ar is unsubstituted or substituted aryl and Hal is Cl or Br) are prepared by the Grignard method from an arylmethyl halide II EQU Ar--CH.sub.2 --Hal II and magnesium in an ether III EQU tert-butyl--O--R III (where R is C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 -alkyl) as solvent.
