Abstract

The invention is a compound useful for emulsifying an epoxy resin in water, which corresponds to EQU A--X--O--(CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O).sub.n --R wherein: PA0 X is the residue of a difunctional compound which is capable of reacting with the primary hydroxy moiety of a monoalkylether of a polyethylene glycol and a 1,2-glycidyl ether moiety; PA0 R is C.sub.1-10 alkyl moiety; and PA0 n is a positive real number such that the composition is emulsifiable in water. In another embodiment the invention is a water emulsifiable epoxy resin composition which comprises an epoxy resin and the compounds described above. The epoxy resin compositions of this invention are useful in water-borne coating compositions.
