Abstract

Pollen is suppressed in Liliopsida by use of compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein X represents a group of the formula OR.sup.1 wherein R.sup.1 represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl optionally substituted with a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy group; or C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 and R represents phenyl or phenyl substituted with one to three halogen atoms or C.sub.1 -4 haloalkoxy; or an agriculturally acceptable salt thereof are disclosed along with methods to produce hybrid seed in self-fertilizing plants.
