Abstract

A cationic polymer composition suitable for use as a flocculating agent and as a retention aid in paper making consists of a mixture of PA0 a) a hydrophilic cationic polymer, PA0 b) an anionic surfactant, PA0 optionally c) a water-immeriscible oil in which the polymer a) is insoluble, PA0 and, if c) is present, PA0 optionally d) a lipophilic non-ionic surfactant, PA0 optionally e) water PA0 and optionally f) an oil-miscible polar solvent. The compositions may be prepared by water-in-oil emulsion polymerisation and are readily diluted with water.
